5G June 2017, market’s highlights in titles

 

  1. China‘s 5G network spending tipped to reach US$180 billion over seven years.
  2. 5G rollout to create 2.3 million jobs in EU.
  3. The microchip giant ARM Holdings has led a $22m investment round in Blu Wireless’ “millimetre wave” whose technology is seen as crucial to the next generation of mobile networks.
  4. Ericsson expects US and APAC to be ahead of Europe on 5G. Ericsson expects 5G to drive mobile data traffic 10 times faster by 2022. Asia Pacific will lead the global rollout of 5G with its 28 million subscriptions and 180 million cellular IoT subscriptions, along with North America, which will account for around 10 percent of the region’s subscription by 2022. Ericsson to Head European 5G Connected Car Project.
  5. AT&T Expects a standards-based 5G in Late 2018 or Early ’19 with both fixed and wireless solutions
  6. Japan‘s three leading mobile service providers  will begin offering 5G wireless communication to customers in 2020, expecting nationwide 5G mobile coverage by 2023.
  7. Telus and Huawei have successfully completed trials of 5G wireless technology using the global 3GPP standards platform.
  8. SoftBank kicks off 5G trials with China’s ZTE, trial over sub6GHz spectrum at 4.5GHz.
  9. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is launching a consultation (open till August 7th) regarding the use of millimeter wave spectrum for 5G, asking for input on the planned use of the 24.75GHz to 27.5GHz, 37GHz to 42.5GHz and other mmWave bands.
  10. The Brazilian government has signed an agreement with China, the EU, the US, Japan and South Korea to obtain 5G.
